Yesterday — Sunday, November 5, 2017 — a young man wielding an assault gun killed 26 men, women and children and wounded 20 others at the First Baptist Church, Sutherland Springs, Texas.
This mass murder took place nearly five years after another young man wielding assault guns slaughtered 20 children and 6 staff members at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Connecticut, December 14, 2012.
Despite nationwide shock and outrage, the National Rifle Association and a corrupt, complicit Congress stopped any meaningful legislation from being enacted in 2013 and in the blood-spattered years that have followed.
The NRA's own solution? Turn our schools into armed camps.
Five Sundays ago, on October 1, a man armed with assault guns sprayed death on Las Vegas concertgoers. 58 people died; 546 were wounded. The NRA remains staunchly opposed to meaningful gun control. Banish assault guns from civil society? Don't be silly.
Now this: Sutherland Springs. 26 more notches on the NRA's belt.
Expected political change: zero.
Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton, long endorsed by the NRA, doubled down. He urged folks to anticipate more massacres — and come to church armed.
Sounds like Sandy Hook all over again — unless decent people stand united against the NRA ... this time.
